The Object Overview Table

All the best sorting and searching of data is worthless if you cannot display the filtered object you have found as you like.

From my own experience I know how annoying it is when you have to reorganize the table again and again, even if you just want to see some figures from a slightly different perspective. This led me to create a table setting that preferably suits most objects. Even if you have an action-figure or comic-database sometimes you also need different data fields to capture everything that you want.

It was important to me to be able to save table settings within the collecting database of COLLECTORBASE.net, so that you can easily recall them as needed and don’t have to start again from the beginning.
This is a luxury I have always missed, but you will soon also recognize how practical it is. However, this is not the only feature that will be provided in this table view of our collecting database.

The object overview has three main tools: the sorting, the searching and the table tools. The table takes over the task of displaying the objects. For this, it has several functions.

The visual presentation

adapt the table view

It is important to be able to adapt the table view depending on what you currently need.
If you just want an overview, a picture is better. If you want information, then a table with data is better.

But here of course, everyone has their own different preferences. Every collector is unique and we are trying to satisfy all needs.

We have a square image overview. This overview is tidy, with all pictures having the same, trimmed size.
If you prefer to see the whole picture, choose the flexible overview. Here, all pictures have the same width but different lengths.

We offer the data table in two different versions: with the object image or without the object image. Both have advantages. On your mobile phone, the table without pictures is smaller and therefore clearer.

As always you can switch between the settings with a single mouse-clip or finger-tap. I know from my own experience how great it is when you are able to get your collection out and show it to someone while you’re in the middle of talking to them about it. Maybe it’s because you would like to show them your collection or simply recall some data or so an illustration of something. Here you can easily switch between the settings and draw up what is useful. (Or maybe you simply want to browse your own collection!)

What should be presented?

Whenever I go to a collectors’ market or see something to buy on the Internet, I am always asking myself, “Do I have this already?”
Of course, at this moment it is very handy to be able to recall the objects that you already have in your collection. But more interesting in such a situation I also to be able to recall what you are actually looking for!
So, for example, when you are standing in front of a box full of objects that you collect, what would you rather see on your smartphone? What you already have? Or would you like to focus on what you are looking for, the details of that one item you want?
I prefer to concentrate on what I am looking for. Then I find the things I am looking for first, ahead of others.

With previous databases this didn’t work at all. Therefore I created this function, which is really useful.

Your objectsall objects with the following status will be shown: “in collection”, “missing”, “ordered” “by mail”, “for sale”
With statusshows all objects who have a status
Shows all objectsshows all objects no matter if they are in your collection or have a status
Not in your collectionthis setting shows all objects that are NOT in your collection

It’s worth noting that “show all objects” and “not in my collection” can recall more than 1000 objects! Therefore you need a browser and be aware that it is possible that you could have a bit of a delay or timeout depending on your computer. These queries really can max your browser out given how many items are in our database. Therefore we have incorporated a blocker. If you start a query and are using one of these statuses, we limit the query automatically to 2000 objects.
You can also obviously do specific searches – ones that will probably bring back less than 2000 objects!

How do you create a table?

CREATE OR CHANGE THE SORTINGThe table works in a similar manner to search and sorting. With drag & drop you can sort properties, save them under a significant name, and recall them within the object overview.
The top-most property is in the left-most table. The bottom-most is on the far right side.

CREATE/CHANGE TABLES

You can also create a new table via the object overview. You open the table selection above the table and select the first point “Create new table”. This will bring you to the right function.

Manage tables

The administration for the table can be recalled via the book icon.
The handling is the same. With the checkbox, you can regulate which table properties can be recalled directly from the object overview. With the red bin you can delete the table. With the crossed tools you can make changes to the table.

MANAGE TABLES

As you can see it is easy to create, manage, and use tables within the database of COLLECTORBASE.net.

Try the tables. Play with them. And get to know them. This is the fastest way to learn how to use the table function well.
