The detailed view page follows a new, innovative approach.
It is completely customizable to your needs and it is easy to learn how to configure all of it.
- Structure of the detailed view
In order to change the page you first need a general understanding of how it works. It’s quite simple.
- Select properties
This is how to determine the properties you’d like to see on your object types.
- Order properties
This covers how to group properties and arrange the order in which they are sorted.
- Use object types
What are object types, and what defines them.
- Create a new/similar/existing object
How do you create a new object? Is there an easy way to create a similar object? How do I duplicate an object?
- Object types: Which ones exist already and how do I use them?
Which object types do we already have? How do we use them? Which properties are already used? You will find all this information here. And if there is something missing, we can create it together.
- Image manager
How to upload and edit your own pictures.
How can I present my own pictures and secure them at the same time?
COLLECTORBASE.net is able to adds a watermark automatically to ensure this.
Structure of the detailed view
Along with the object overview, the detailed view page is the core of the collecting database from COLLECTORBASE.net.
The detailed view page is in two halves.
This section includes all the information related to a collector’s item itself.
The public data is shared by all collectors who possess the same item.
You can pick exactly the properties you are interested in. Each of them can be sorted according to your personal preference. See “Select properties” and “Order properties” for details. You can show the hidden data by clicking on the arrow down icon; conversely you can hide the shown data by clicking on the arrow up icon.
The public data is divided into three areas:
1 – Head section
This is for properties that are most important for you to see.
2 – Base section
This is best for properties that you like to be able to access quickly, but which you don’t need to see on first sight.
3 – Hidden section
This is for properties that you don’t want to miss but that are not needed most of the time.
Head, Basis & Hidden Section
You can show/hide the hidden data by clicking on the arrow down/up icon.
This set of data is fixed. There is no need to move them around.
The important thing here is that this information is available only to yourself. No other user has access to this private data.
The only information utilized anonymously by COLLECTORBASE.net is the item’s cost. All prices of each individual item are combined and used to calculate the average value of the item; individual data is not viewable.
So how to determine the properties you’d like to see on your object types?
The properties can be picked and ordered in the detailed view’s settings page.
There are two ways to navigate to this:
1) Via the settings main page
This is the default way. In the header click on the gear icon for settings, then choose the “detail view” setting in the Collectorbase section.
Properties - Main Page
2) On the detailed view page there is also an icon that’ll lead straight to the settings
The icon is in the submenu on the right hand side.
Icon: direkt link - properties detail view
Both ways will lead you directly to this page.
Settings: mainpage object properties
The properties section on the detail page is divided into different parts. The top-most part is for the object properties.
Here you will find three buttons:
- Properties selection
- Position of properties
- Factory settings
With the two green buttons you can change the properties as you wish. With the red button (“factory settings”) you can choose to use our predefined settings at anytime.
The predefined settings are not rigid. We are continuously working on the most suitable settings. Add or move properties. Those properties will be used automatically for your account in case you use the factory settings.
For this tutorial, we are going to run through adding or deselecting properties. As a first step, please select the button “properties selection”.
This page is divided into two parts.
Selection of object type
Firstly choose for which object type you would like to select or deselect properties.
Tip: you can also deselect properties in “Order of properties”. After you have chosen the right object type in the drop-down menu, click on “select object type”. The properties will then be loaded automatically in the underlying section that you would be able to access subsequently.
Select/Deselect object properties
Those properties are divided into three further sections.
- Used properties for this object type
These are all the properties that are currently in use for your object type.
- Properties used by other users
These are all properties that are additionally used by other users within this object type. This should help you to make the decision on which properties you could still use, given that other users also use these and they may be relevant or interesting for you.
As an additional help you can see in percentage terms how many other users make use of the specific object type.
- Unused properties for this object type
These are all properties which are not used by anyone for this specific object type.
Settings: mainpage object properties
For each property, you will see what percentage of users make use of this property, a small description of the property on the very right hand side, and three options. These options are:
a) Detail page
If you choose this option, in the future this property will be shown on your object type.
Note: if you choose a property but you do not select a rank order for it, the property will be shown at the top of the object type.
Here you can choose all the properties which you would like to have presented in your search. You can choose as many as you like, but you will need to make a decision for ranking.
For all presentations where you use object types, all the selected properties will be shown.
You can click on “save” to save the settings whenever you like, and when you are done you simply click on “save and close”. Then everything will be saved and you will be forwarded to the main page of the detail properties.
Order of properties
This defines where in the detailed view page you want to see which properties.
Properties - Main Page
This function works in the same manner as that of selecting the properties on the main page of the details page properties. The button “Property row (position of properties)” can be found directly under the property selection described above.
The page for the ranking of the properties is divided into three sections.
a) Selection of the object type
Here you choose the object type you are going to work with.
b) Field selection
You can adjust the COLLECTORBASE.net database according to your liking. Here you can set the properties for your detail page, the header search, as well as for your presentations, and in the future you will also be able to adjust your trading lists.
Within this area it is completely up to you which property you use and where is should be placed.
Choose an area and try it. If you are not happy with your selection, you can easily go back to the factory settings.
Site: Order of properties
c) Ranking of properties
If you read the chapter “Structure of the detailed view” you are familiar with the three sections HEAD, BASE and HIDDEN that comprise public data.
There is a separate fourth field “NEW“, which you won’t have seen before. It will only show up here and only if there are properties of an object type that are not assigned to one of the three regular sections yet.
You can simply drag and drop each property into position. Properties that are left in the “NEW” section will be displayed on top later.
Each property can be moved from one section to any other.
Now you know everything to tailor the detailed view page to your personal taste.
In case you went from the detailed view page to the object properties main page, there will be an additional icon right hand side that will redirect you back to your last item.
Icon: back to detailed view
How can you administer your images and how can the pictures be used?
How to upload your image files? What are all the different icons for? What are the possibilities?
The first step is to upload your images. You may use the button “images” on the detailed view page or simply click on the camera icon in the pictures ribbon.
The following page allows for uploading your images.
A click on the camera icon will open the file upload dialog of your browser or you may drag and drop images from your desktop directly to the camera icon.
Your uploaded images can be seen only by yourself on the detailed view page. The icons provide a variety of functions to process your images.
Image management on newly uploaded pictures
Of course you know that dealing with copyright protected images is problematic.
In general it is not allowed to upload any images if you don’t possess the proper rights. But there are exceptions to the rule like press pictures that are meant for publishing. On the other hand you may want to emphasize the copyright on your own pictures.
Our approach is to always have the copyright holder noted on every image; it may be you or another owner. In case you don’t know the proper copyright owner, just type “unknown”.
When you filled in a copyright note the red © sign becomes golden. In this way, the copyright holder gets credit for it.
The waste bin is used throughout COLLECTORABASE.net to delete. In this case you can delete images.
Please note: Once pictures are marked as “published” they can no longer be deleted.
Why cannot I delete published pictures anymore?
Once you decide to share your images with fellow collectors by marking the smiley icon, other users will be able to see these pictures.
If you could delete these pictures later on, they would vanish for all users without notice. Therefore to prevent confusion among other collectors, deletion of these images is prevented.
The smiley marks an image as “published”. A published image can be accessed by all users.
Best practice is to publish press photos and as many of your pictures as you’d like to share. Other users will have to upload similar (perhaps the very same) images if you keep your files private.
In the spirit of good collaboration sharing is caring, and of course, you’ll be able to use the published images that others have uploaded.
Of course you may keep images private that you really don’t want to share.
The star marks the favorite image – for example this favorite is used in the image pane of the object overview. It will also be used in the search results list, in your presentations or in the demand & supply lists.
Only one image per item can be tagged as ‘favourite’.
The watermark is used in the presentation of your collection. It’s completely understandable that you don’t want others to use or take possession of photos that you took yourself.
This can be prevented by using the watermark function.
In detailed view settings you can customize if and how your pictures get watermarked. You can provide the text and font size of the watermark as well as the position where it appears on the image.
The watermarking of each image is done individually. One click and you’re done.
More information on watermarking can be found in “presentations”.
Now you know the two icons that define how an image is shared, the smiley and the watermark.
Each combination of these two defines where and how an image is displayed:
The image is shown to other users in the detailed view page and in the presentation with your watermark on it.
This image is shown to other users in the detailed view page and in the presentation without any watermark.
This image is not shown to other users in the detailed view page but it will be available in the presentation with your watermark.
This image is not shown to other users neither in the detailed view page nor in the presentation.
On top of each picture there is an option saying “visible in detail page”. You may disable this checkbox if you don’t want to see a particular image in your picture ribbon.
Finally save your settings when you are content with the images and your customization. For convenience there is a “save” button on top of the page as well as at the bottom.
Your uploaded pictures stay private initially. Only after saving your deliberate changes they will be split into published and private categories. See “Smiley” information above.
For published images you may only switch your favorite and the watermark.
Public & private pictures
You will have already seen the possibilities of using watermarks within the picture administration. But how do you create a watermark? We will answer this here.
The settings for the watermark can be found in the settings of the details page, according to the property settings.
mainpage detail view
Creating a watermark on COLLECTORBASE.net is very easy.
You have three settings:
Watermark – text
Here you can enter the text for your watermark. We recommend using your username, as this is unique to you on COLLECTORBASE.net. If you decide to use something different, try to keep the text as short as possible.
Select the position where you want the watermark to be. Simple click on the desired position.
With the font size, you can specify the dimensions and size of your watermark. The images are always will be reduced to a width of 800 pixels. Accordingly, you specify the size of the font size in pixels.
The best thing to do is to simply try it out.
place a watermark
In order to show how watermarks function, we have adjusted the font size to 100 pixels with the position “lower justify”.
Once the size and position have been set, you only have to select the pictures. After this, all your selected pictures will be watermarked for all users and for your presentations.
The watermark is saved within the image file. This means that it is not possible to save the image file separately without the watermark or obtain it from the cache. So you can put your mind at rest, provide your pictures to others and/or use them in your presentation!
